Defining myself.
Everyday

Defining myself.

After two nights of partying into the wee hours of the morning, I felt like I needed to come back to myself. There are so many things that make me who I am, but there are specific things that center me and give me the feeling that my life is on track. I loved going out, kicking it, and ‘living’ with my friends, but it was time to settle back into the things that bring me joy every day.

I love who I am when I…

  • Wake up early.
  • Take time to myself to reflect, meditate, or just be.
  • Bask in the sun.
  • Read a book that I’m convinced is going to change my life.
  • Write.
  • Eat well and exercise.
  • Conquer my to-do list.

It’s odd for me to think of these things as the things that make me who I am, because they’re so simple. I still dream of travel, financial freedom, and making a big change in the world, but the heart of me is my desire to be myself, love myself, and do my best.

This weekend was an adventure like I wanted it to be. Shit, my birthday’s coming up and the Cavs are in the Finals again – respect needed to be paid. I drank too much, made a few new friends, and let loose. I got dressed up, took too many photos, and smiled like I could light up the world. I felt alive in the moment, but when it was done, it was time to re-charge.

So, today it’s back to basics. I’m at my desk, writing to jazz radio. I finished reading another book this morning and did a full workout. I have more things to knock out today, and no plans to let anyone or anything derail me. Best of all, I’m moving at my pace again – slow and present.

What makes you feel alive everyday?

  1. A good breakfast is a big part of feeling good for me. I can skip lunch or supper, but if I don’t get breakfast, I’m in a foul mood. The essentials are some V8 juice and a banana. Cereal, oatmeal, eggs, or a bagel are all interchangeable. I also think I have a better day when I have some yogurt later.

There are things that I know would give me more life, like exercise and sleep, but I’m not great at making those happen consistently. :-/

On a cheesier (but true) note, smiles and laughter from my daughter and wife make my soul shine.
